Nunavut Commissioner's Awards Ceremony in Rankin Inlet

Iqaluit, Nunavut (October 31, 2011) - On behalf of all Nunavummiut I wish to offer my deepest sympathies to the family, friends and comrades of Seargeant Janick Gilbert, who died on Thursday October 27, 2011 while on a rescue mission to save two hunters who were stranded at sea east of Igloolik.

Women-in-Action - Steps of Hope
Iqaluit, Nunavut (December 13, 2011) - Six Women-in-Action will be taking Steps of Hope towards a shared vision of health and wellness from Umingmaktuuq to Cambridge Bay, approximately 155 miles across the Coronation Gulf in May 2012. By walking they are reminding themselves that healthy bodies and minds are built a step at a time; hope is built a step at a time and that a cure for cancer can be achieved by the combined steps of many.

Celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee
Iqaluit, Nunavut (February 06, 2012) - Today marks the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the Throne. This occasion of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee is a time for Nunavummiut, and indeed all Canadians, to celebrate the contributions of our head of state and to reflect on our territory and nation's growth during her reign. Women in Action Cheque Presentation
August 18, 2014 - On May 1, 2014, four brave women, along with their guides and Edna Elias, the Commissioner of Nunavut, began their Women-in_Action - Steps of Hope from Whale Cove to Rankin Inlet, Nunavut. The goal of the 113-km journey was to raise money for breast cancer research for the Alberta Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, where Elias presented an $89,582.73 cheque today. Photo

Women in Action - Steps of Hope 2015 Walk for Cancer
Iqaluit, Nunavut (November 12, 2014) – On May 1, 2015, Commissioner Edna Elias will be joined by nine women for the third Women in Action, Steps of Hope walk for breast cancer research. The walk in 2015 is from Hall Beach to Igloolik, which is approximately 71 km.
