Celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee
Raising of the Flag
Nunavut Commissioner
At 7:58 in the morning, between 15-20 people joined the Honourable Edna Elias outside the Legislative Assembly building
in Iqaluit to witness the raising of Queen Elizabeth II ‘s personal Canadian Flag to celebrate the 60th anniversary of her
accession to the Throne.
The -25°C and winds of 45 km/h creating wind chill of minus 41 prevented everyone to stay outside for a group picture as
most participants were wearing their uniforms with no overcoat.
We had the pleasure of the company of our Deputy Mayor, RCMP Chief Superintendent Steve McVarnock , Members of the
Military and Cadet, some members of the Anglican Church and some staff members, who made this event possible.
After a few remarks from Commissioner Elias, everyone enjoyed warm beverages, bannock and muffins.
